Bhutan, pronounced and also written as Bhutan, officially the Kingdom of Bhutan, is a country in Asia that is sandwiched in the Himalayas between China (Tibet) and India. The southern part of Bhutan is located on the Indian subcontinent.
The local name of the country, Druk Yul, means the land of the Druk (dragon). Another name that the inhabitants give to their own country is Druk Tsendhen, which means the land of the thunder dragon. The thunder is said to be the roar of the Chinese dragons.
