Ľudovít Štúr, actually Ludevít Velislav Štúr, was a Slovak nationalist and, as a linguist, the founder of the Slovak standard language. Slovakia belonged to the empire of Austria in its time as part of Hungary.

The Bratislava Castle stands on a hill on the west side of the center of the Slovak capital. This hill on the left bank of the Danube is one of the foothills of the Carpathians. The building has four corner towers. 13th-century crown jewels are exhibited in the crown tower.
